Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro

Macro photography is something I’ve wanted to get into for a long time, I’ve always seen shots on Flickr in Magazines and books of great close up shots and have been intrigued. In the last year I’ve had a chance to play with it some more since my beautiful wife gave me a Canon 100mm Macro lens.

The Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro lens is a great choice for shooting macro photography for multiple reasons first if you want to get close to your subjects you will want a lens with some distance to it, second you want a really wide open aperture because the closer you get to your subjects the smaller the amount of light you end up working with so the bigger the aperture the better. It also allows you to shoot up to full 1 to 1 life size images.

Looking at Canon’s line of Macro lenses you can go from a 50mm to a 180mm lens and they will all give you some great options but like I said in the last paragraph I think you’ll end up wanting some distance so when I was looking it was between the 100mm and the 180mm. The 100mm lens was able to shoot 1 to 1 life size as was the 180mm, but the 100 has a 2.8 aperture and the 180 has a 3.5 aperture. I also anticipate shooting quite a few shots hand held so I also wanted a light lens that would allow me to hold very still. This meant I was down to just the 100mm lens and I have to tell you I can’t be happier.
Today was a great afternoon in NYC and I thought it would be a great time to get out and take some shots with my macro lens, I was able to find some great flowers just down the street from me and just my luck there were plenty of bees flying around so I was able to play around with taking some great insect macro pics along with the flowers.

Needless to say I love this lens and would recommend it to any one who is looking to get into macro photography with a Canon body. Check it out over at [Amazon](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004XOM3?ie=UTF8&tag=musicrant-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00004XOM3)
