Lightroom Virtual Copies

by Adam on November 17, 2009

In todays screencast I wanted to cover a simple but under used feature of Lightroom.  Virtual Copies of your images allow you to keep multiple versions of the same image with different effects applied to each copy.  The cool thing about this feature is you can store all the different iterations of your images with almost no overhead.  This is made possible by Lightroom’s non-destructive workflow, each copy is just a new set of metadata not a completely new copy of the image.  Your hard drive will thanks you

Workflow

  • Select your image
  • Right click (Option Click) the image
  • Select Create Virtual Copy
  • Apply any of your adjustments to the copied image
