How to shoot Nightscapes

by adam on December 19, 2009 · 1 comment

The guys over at the photo argus have put together a great list tips for photographing landscapes at night.

> It all begins, as every other photograph does, with the composition. While looking for daytime subjects, it is also important to note any areas where a nice twilight, sunset, or after dark photograph could be made too.

> To focus the scene, it is important to consider the focal point of the image and then use this to the best extent possible. For example, a flat and expansive landscape with only a ridge of hills in the distance is going to use those hills as the focus, while the landscape with a building as the focal point will target that instead.

Cameraquest has nicely been customizing Voightlander lenses to work correctly on Canon, Nikon and Pentax cameras. Check them out if you don’t mind manual focus!
