iPad photography app PhotoPad is one of the most downloaded free photography apps on the app store. The question is how does it fare against some of the great paying photo editor apps available? The app is pretty simple you load images that are already stored on the iPad and then you have a few tools are your disposal.
- Crop
- Sketch
- Paint Bucket
Crop is pretty simple, you can drag the crop tool around the screen to frame your image, once you have it how you want it, you hit the green checkbox at the top of the screen. Overall it’s a great way to handle crop on the iPad but it has it’s limitations, you can’t specify an aspect ratio and you can’t specify specific pixel crop.
Sketch is a fun idea, you can draw right on top of your photos, this could be a great way for an art director to point out things about an image they want fixed or removed etc. This tool could also be used for fun drawing on peoples faces or adding talking balloons for a comic book effect.
But after you get through a few of these fun and useful tools you are left with some effects that are very overdone to the point where they can’t used for much. You also only have one option for saving your images, that is back to the photos folder on the iPad, it would be great to see the option of sending your images out to some of the social sites like facebook.
All in all this is a fun but limiting tool for editing your photos on the iPad. It turns out to a be a great way to get your feet wet with photography on the iPad but once you want to do anything a little more interesting you’ll want to check out some other options.
