Mac OSX and Epson R2880

So over the last year or so I’ve been playing with rolling my own prints. I grew increasingly frustrated with both the quality of the prints some of my local printers were giving me and the inability to print something out quickly to get a feel for it. The solution was to go out and get a new photo printer. It have served me well and provided great prints and great frustration over the last year. Lately I’ve hit on a problem that I just found a solution to and thought it might be good to get the word out.

I’ve been printing with only the matte paper for some time which is why this problem never came up but recently I was given some glossy paper to test out. I promptly swapped the ink cartridge, downloaded the profile for my printer and I was off. I got the colors looking the way I wanted and hit print to set up the settings, this is when things got hairy. The only choices the printer was giving me was Matte papers even though I had just put in the glossy ink. I decided to restart both the computer and the printer and see if this was jut a temporary issue. Nope, still matte.

This meant the printer and the profile wold be off and the colors and depth of my print would not be right, not good. I searched around for a while on Google without much luck and called it a day for then. I came back to the printer a few days later hoping for it to have fixed itself, again it was a mismatch. I started my search over again and found a forum posting that had a possible solution.

You have to go into System Preferences and dis-associate the printer from your computer (Select the printer and click the minus button) and then re-associate the printer back with the computer. When you do this the driver correctly picks up the type of ink you have inserted and lets you go on printing correctly.
